what is nlp?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) models the science and art of human thinking and behaviour. Dr. Richard Bandler and John Grinder first developed the technology that forms NLP over thirty years ago and has since improved the lives of millions globally and has also been successfully applied to many different fields.

Neuro: The Mind-Body relationship, how we operate; physiological and mental states and activities.

Linguistic: The language we use to describe, categorize, communicate about and make sense of our individual maps of the world & how we communicate our experience to others. As well as utilising those maps to communicate better with ourselves and others.

Programming: The stories and programs we use to interpret our experience; discovering repeating sequences of behavior, patterns thought that help us or hinder us

NLP is a way of perceiving reality, and of making appropriate changes that move us in the direction we want. NLP is about learning to pay attention to what is happening in our reality, and also to what happens as a result, so that we can learn through experience.

NLP was specifically created in order to allow us to do magic by creating new ways of under standing how verbal and non-verbal communications affect the human brain.

NLP gives us a deeper understanding of the relationships between the mind and body.

Both Nick Kemp and Tina Taylor are Licensed NLP Trainers having been licensed by Dr. Richard Bandler to train others in the art of NLP. Presuppositions of NLP

“The Map is not the territory” - Each of us creates this unique and personal model of the world we experience - this is our own personal map of reality. Our representations of the world determine what our experience of, and responses to, the world will be. They determine how we will perceive the world and which choices we will have available - or not - as we interact with the world. These maps or models are created through our internal sensory representations.

“People are always doing the best they can” - Given the choices we are aware of, we each do the best we know how to do at each moment. We make the best choice available given what is and is not part of our unique map of the world. When people have better choices available, they use them.

“People have the resources necessary to make the changes they want to make” - People have access to rich internal representations and strategies and they can access all the resources necessary for them to make whatever changes they want.

NLP assists you to effectively access those resources in situations where such resources are wanted and needed. Each behaviour has a positive intention On the part of the person that is responsible for a particular behaviour, that behaviour has a positive intention. You retain this positive intention while making new choices

Distinction between behaviour and “sense of self”

Your behaviour at any moment is not you. Making distinctions between behaviour and the sense of self allows flexibility of behaviour on the outside, and leads to flexibility of behaviour and experience on the inside.

There is no such thing as failure only feedback. There is no such thing as failure, only experience that helps us stay on the path to success. All information that comes to us can be utilised. Behaviour always gets results of some kind. Experience provides the opportunity for gaining wisdom. It is only when we label and judge personal experience rather than understand and use it - that we short-circuit the opportunity to learn. Failure only exists when we place time limits to achieving things, otherwise we could view it as simply practice!

“How” is more useful than “Why”. Asking "Why?" usually prompts rationalisation, excuses, and/or blame for things being the way they are. Asking "How?" is more useful in that it naturally leads to breaking a process down into manageable chunks, making healing and change, or accomplishment of our goals, more achievable.

Integrate this learning into your everyday life with ease, fun, elegance.
